Our Team

An extensive network of highly skilled operational support staff work hard to recruit, induct, train and support our volunteer team in the important work that they do.

 

Listed below is some background information about a few of our senior staff as well as a full listing of our entire Operations Team and their areas of responsibility

 

 

Andy Fryar - Executive Officer

Our Executive Officer Andy Fryar, has worked with volunteers since 1985 and joined the Volunteer Association in 1997.

 

He holds a Diploma of Volunteer Management and an undergraduate degree in Recreation Planning and Management.

 

Outside of the Lyell McEwin, Andy is involved extensively with the volunteering movement both nationally and internationally.

 

He is a past President of Volunteering Australia, a co-author of Australia's premiere volunteer management guide (Volunteer Management:an essential guide) and the Founder of OzVPM, one of the country's most utilised volunteer management support networks. Andy trains volunteer managers the world over and has presented in the USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Singapore and NZ.

Andy currently serves as the Chairperson of the global committee overseeing International Volunteer Managers Day, celebrated on November 5 each year

 

In 2003, Andy was awarded a Centenary of Federation medal in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Australian volunteering movement.

Donna Amos  

Donna Amos - Director of Volunteer Services

Donna has worked in volunteer management for more than a decade and joined the LMHS Volunteers in 2003.

 

Prior to this time, Donna was employed as the Volunteer Manager for ACHA Health in Adelaide, where she oversaw the work of volunteers in 4 separate private hospitals (Ashford, Memorial, Flinders Private and Western Private)

 

Donna's role includes the oversight of the Association's respite care and friendly visiting programs and revenue generating services, in addition to being the key support figure to many of the volunteer groups located at the Lyell McEwin campus.

 

Donna holds an Advanced Diploma of Volunteer Management and is the past President of AAVA - the Australasian Association of Volunteer Administrators.

Peter Paye - Director of Volunteer Business Services

Peter is qualified in Art History and Business Marketing and joins the Association after a long career in senior management in the telecommunications industry.

 

He has worked extensively in the UK and in Asia particularly in Singapore where he was the Director responsible for Sales and Marketing for SingTel in Australia, the purchasers of Optus. 

 

He has headed engineering installation companies in England and started HR companies in Sydney where, as a member of the Australian Institute of Human Resources he guided and mentored many individuals to gain advancement in their careers and a clearer focus on life work balance.

Ann Surrell

 

 

 

Ann Surrell - Volunteer Recruitment Team Leader

Ann began with the Volunteer Association in 1999 after working for many years in Adult education.

 

Her role at the Lyell McEwin Volunteers is to head up the Association's recruitment team, and to facilitate the Association's Information Sessions and Training days.

 

Our recruitment team are responsible for the important role of recruiting, selecting and inducting new volunteers into our organisation.

Gillian Hughes - Manager, Northern Respite Care Services

Gillian managed the Association's Commonwealth government funded respite care program and friendly visiting programs.

 

Her responsibilities include meeting the support needs of carers living in the northern community and providing much needed support to those who are isolated and living alone

 

Gillian is currently studying for an Advanced Diploma of Volunteer Management
